She got Soul: Melanie JB Charles

Unique and extremely talented Melanie Charles can go from opera, to classical jazz, to foklore, to ... anything and she will give it her all and sound amazing. She is classically trained, a product of Haitian parents and straight out of Brooklyn. She's been performing for quite some time now all over  and has recently released an album with her band The Journey.

I found Melanie not too long ago and I've been a fan ever since. She reminds people of some great jazz singers (Sarah Vaughn in particular) but she is purely herself. I love her style, her passion for her craft, and last but not least, she has a killer fro! I'm a sucker for a good afro. She is one of the reasons why I now wished I lived  where artists like her perform on the regular (ahem New York...)
check out her blog to get up close and personal with her thoughts http://melaniecharlesmusic.tumblr.com/
You can also like her on facebook to keep up with her.

Her Work:
one of my favorite originals by her " HAITI"  You really need to listen to how beautiful this song is

Some of her other performances that I love

By the way i will post an article ablout the song choucoune soon. I didn't know the history of the song and I loved it when I read about it. Also there will be a classic Haitian Diva about Martha soon.
Anyways check out miss Melanie. I really do love her. Don't forget to read all 4 of the She got Soul features for a chance to win a cd on the last one.
Bisous
